‘Marin, the Beautiful’ Tour: Full Itinerary

marinccc Begin your day in beautiful Marin County however you'd like: a walk down to and strenuous return from the Point Bonita Lighthouse, offering a view of San Francisco only cruise ships enjoy; a brief visit to the Marine Mammal Center, where volunteers help injured animals back to health; an exploration of Sausalito's historic Bay Model (an U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' scale-model of the hydraulic ecology of the entire Bay and Delta watersheds). We may continue with a drive through Tiburon (an affluent California town with "Ark Row" shops and spectacular Mediterranean views) to Frank Lloyd Wright's last masterpiece, the Marin County Civic Center, one of the most influential structures in the history of American architecture. Then it's time for lunch at a charming Victorian inn or in quaint Pt. Reyes Station.

Afternoon is also a matter of options: we can include a visit to the picturesque oceanside towns of Bolinas and Stinson Beach. Or, an extended stopover at the Point Reyes National Seashore wilderness area, including its wild herd of tule elk, beaches and "Earthquake Trail". On a clear day, a drive out to the Point Reyes Lighthouse is definitely worthwhile, as it sits on a moonscape promontory you'll never forget. Alternatively, you may wish to a hike into the primeval redwood forest of Muir Woods. Our day winds down with a drive to the panoramic summit of Mount Tamalpais — perhaps stopping at the medieval English Pelican Inn… perhaps returning home via the ferry from Sausalito.
